Tax relief for Hurricane Ike victims!

The past couple of weeks have been quite an ordeal for a lot of folks in the greater Houston area. A lot of people lost their homes and livelihoods in Galveston, Bolivar Peninsula and the surrounding areas. Thousands suffered power outages lasting days to weeks.
The good news coming out of the IRS is that they are postponing the filing and payment deadlines for  for Louisiana and Texas taxpayers affected by Hurricane Ike to January 5th, 2009.



Taxpayers include individuals, corporations, estates and trusts, partnership and S corporations.  The deadline is also effective for estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax returns, employment taxes and certain excise tax returns.


The federal government has declared the following Texas counties as presidential disaster area:  Angelina, Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Cherokee, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, Waller and Washington.


The federal government has declared the following Louisiana parishes as presidential disaster area:  Acadia, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Iberia , Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafourche, Plaquemines, Sabine, St. Mary, Terrebonne, Vermilion and Vernon.
